Our Work

Practical workshops that fit real life

Evidence-based programmes for anxiety and sleep, delivered free across Motherwell — no referral, no waiting list.

How we work

Sitting down and giving people something genuinely useful

At its core, our work is about sitting down with people and giving them something genuinely useful. Every Vibrant Health Advocates – Copper workshop is facilitated by a trained and supervised practitioner who begins not with a PowerPoint slide but with a conversation — checking in with the group, understanding what has brought people to the room, and calibrating the session accordingly.

We cover techniques that have strong evidence bases: paced breathing drills that activate the parasympathetic nervous system within minutes; thought-challenging exercises that interrupt the catastrophising loop; sleep-window protocols that rebuild the brain's association between bed and rest rather than bed and worry. Participants leave each session with a printed reference card they can stick on a fridge or keep in a pocket.

Nothing we teach requires a smartphone, an app, a subscription, or a quiet house — because those luxuries are not always available in Motherwell.

Beyond the workshop room, we invest heavily in relationships. Our facilitators stay for twenty minutes after every session to answer individual questions. We maintain a growing network of referral links with local GPs, pharmacy teams, and social prescribing link workers in North Lanarkshire, so that anyone who needs more than our programmes can offer is connected quickly and warmly to the right service.

We also train community volunteers — people who have completed our programmes and want to give something back — to act as peer supporters, helping us reach residents who would never self-refer to anything that sounds clinical but will listen to a neighbour.

Our programmes

Four ways we can help

All programmes are free to attend, run in accessible venues across Motherwell, and open to any adult — no referral letter needed.

😮‍💨

Anxiety Toolkit

A four-session workshop series teaching evidence-based techniques for managing everyday anxiety.

Running across multiple venues in Motherwell, the Anxiety Toolkit series introduces participants to grounding techniques, cognitive restructuring, progressive muscle relaxation, and controlled breathing in a structured, friendly group format. Sessions last ninety minutes and are capped at twelve participants to ensure everyone gets real attention. No prior knowledge or medical referral is needed — just a willingness to show up.

Sleep Reset

A targeted five-week programme for adults whose sleep is consistently disrupted by worry, racing thoughts, or poor sleep habits.

Sleep Reset draws on the principles of Cognitive Behavioural Therapy for Insomnia (CBT-I), widely regarded as the most effective long-term treatment for sleep difficulties. Participants learn stimulus control techniques, sleep restriction therapy adapted for community settings, and personalised wind-down routines. The programme is delivered in rolling cohorts throughout the year, with early-evening and daytime options to accommodate shift workers and carers.

Drop-In Wellbeing Hours

Informal monthly drop-in sessions where anyone can come along, ask questions, and access printed resources.

Held on the first Tuesday of each month at Motherwell Library and at Forgewood Community Centre on alternating weeks, our Drop-In Wellbeing Hours are deliberately low-key. There is no agenda and no commitment — people can spend five minutes or ninety. A trained facilitator is always present to answer questions, signpost to other services, and demonstrate quick techniques for anxiety and sleep. Hot drinks are provided, and the sessions are entirely free.

Workplace Wellbeing Talks

Sixty-minute awareness talks delivered to local employers and community groups free of charge.

Anxiety and poor sleep cost Scottish employers an estimated £1,500 per affected employee annually in lost productivity and absence — and many workers never seek help because they do not know where to start. Our Workplace Wellbeing Talks give line managers and employees a clear, jargon-free introduction to recognising anxiety and sleep problems, responding supportively, and accessing local support. We deliver these talks to businesses, community groups, sports clubs, and faith organisations across North Lanarkshire at no cost, funded by our charitable reserves and grants.
